Encanto Justice Court
Quick answer
Encanto Justice Court operates from the Downtown Justice Center at 620 W. Jackson St., Phoenix, AZ 85003, telephone (602) 372-6300, fax (602) 372-6414. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding court holidays, as published by the Maricopa County Justice Courts. The court hears eviction, small claims, and limited civil matters for its precinct. The precinct determines where a case is filed, not where papers may be served. Fast Serve AZ is an independent process-serving company, not the court.
Encanto Justice Court is one of 26 Justice Court precincts in Maricopa County. It is named for the Encanto area of central Phoenix, but precinct boundaries are drawn independently of neighborhood names and city limits, so the name alone does not tell you whether a given address falls inside this precinct.
That distinction has consequences before filing. A complaint filed in the wrong precinct is a venue problem the clerk will usually catch: the case gets transferred, refiled, or dismissed, and any service already completed may have to be redone in the correct court's case.

A Shared Courthouse, Not a Shared Court
Several Justice Court precincts operate from the Downtown Justice Center on West Jackson Street. They share a building and a main telephone number, but they are separate courts with separate precinct boundaries, separate case files, and separate judges.
This is the most common source of confusion for anyone filing or serving in downtown Phoenix. Because the main telephone number is the same for all of the precincts in that building, reaching someone is not the same as reaching the right court. Confirm the precinct before you rely on a phone call, and put the correct court name on the affidavit.

Venue and Service Are Separate Questions
Where the case is filed. A.R.S. § 22-202 provides that a person shall not be sued outside the justice precinct where the person resides, subject to the exceptions listed in the statute, such as a defendant whose residence is outside Arizona or unknown. That rule decides which Justice Court hears the case.
Where service may be performed. Nothing in the venue statute confines service to the precinct that hears the case. Under Justice Court Rule 113, a summons and complaint are served on an individual in Arizona by personal delivery, by delivery at the defendant's dwelling or usual place of abode to a person of suitable age and discretion who resides there, or by delivery to an agent authorized by appointment or by law. Service may be completed anywhere in Arizona where the defendant can lawfully be served.
How service is proved. Rule 113 also fixes the proof of service the person who completed service must prepare and file, and addresses dismissal when service is not completed in time. A precinct boundary changes none of those requirements.
For an Encanto precinct case, the filings belong to this court. The service attempt usually happens wherever the defendant lives or works, which may be in a different precinct entirely.

Confirming the Precinct Before You File
Precinct boundaries are set geographically and are not the same as ZIP codes, city limits, or neighborhood names. The county publishes an interactive lookup that returns the precinct for a specific address; that tool is the authoritative check, and it is linked above.
Check it again for cases that will be filed after 2026. Maricopa County is scheduled to redraw several Justice Court precinct boundaries in 2027 alongside the opening of a new precinct, so an address that sits in one precinct today may not sit in the same precinct next year. For a case that will be pending across that date, confirm the boundary both when you file and again before relying on it in a later filing.
A process server can tell you where a defendant was served. A process server cannot tell you which precinct your case belongs to, and should not be asked to guess.
Cases Commonly Filed Here
Encanto Justice Court handles limited-jurisdiction matters, including:
- Eviction actions and forcible detainer proceedings
- Small claims lawsuits
- Civil disputes within the Justice Court limit
- Debt collection and contract claims
- Subpoenas and court appearance orders
None of these can move forward on the merits until valid service has occurred and proof of service is in the court file. In eviction cases the window is short: hearings are set quickly, and a service attempt that fails can reset the entire calendar.
Serving Papers for This Precinct
Service assignments tied to a central Phoenix precinct frequently involve dense residential blocks, apartment buildings with controlled entry, downtown office buildings with lobby security, and mixed-use properties where a defendant may be reached at more than one door.
Each of those environments changes the practical plan rather than the legal requirement. The affidavit has to be accurate about what happened: the date, the time, the address, the person served, the method used, and how identity was established. Where substitute service is used, the affidavit should reflect the facts that made the substitute method appropriate.
Fast Serve AZ does not choose service methods for you or interpret the rules for your case. We carry out the assignment you direct and document it accurately.
