Service of process during spring training in Scottsdale
Scottsdale has one Cactus League ballpark inside its municipal limits — Scottsdale Stadium, home of the San Francisco Giants — and a second facility that carries a Scottsdale postal address without being in Scottsdale at all: Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, which stands on Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community land.

- What changes here
- In Old Town Scottsdale, a city-owned ballpark the Giants have used for decades, with clubhouse and training space added in a 2020 upgrade. It is also an offseason event venue, so the site stays active outside the Cactus League season.
- Club administration
- The city owns the stadium and the club operates its baseball side, and the two are approached for different questions. The upgrade put clubhouse and office space inside the same downtown block as the public park, which makes “at the stadium” an imprecise description of where a person actually is.
- Venue access
- A downtown location means street parking, event traffic and a public park setting around the ballpark. Public ground around a stadium is not the stadium, and that distinction is settled before a trip is made.

Ownership is not location. This is the one Cactus League ballpark that is not inside an Arizona city. It stands on Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community land and carries a Scottsdale postal address, but it is not within Scottsdale’s municipal jurisdiction. The Community is the governmental authority for the land, and the ballpark was the first professional sports facility built on Indian land.
- What changes here
- Two clubs share the facility. Because the land is Community land, an assignment here is not a City of Scottsdale assignment with a different address: the authority that governs the site, and any coordination beyond the clubs themselves, runs through the Community.
- Club administration
- Coordination starts with the club whose personnel the papers name, and questions about the site itself belong to the Community rather than to a city. Neither is asked to accept papers for a person.
- Venue access
- The ballpark sits near Indian Bend Road and the Loop 101, and most of the seating is shaded as games progress. Gates, shade and concourse are public accommodations; clubhouses and service areas are not.
What this city adds to a spring-training assignment
- •Scottsdale Stadium is in Old Town and is city-owned, shared between the Giants’ spring season and offseason event use. It is the Giants’ facility and no other club’s.
- •Salt River Fields has a Scottsdale mailing address and is not in Scottsdale. The Community is the governmental authority for that land, and an assignment there is not a City of Scottsdale assignment.
- •The distinction is practical before it is technical: the wrong assumption produces the wrong authority to coordinate with beforehand, and a wasted trip afterward.
- •A postal address says where mail goes; a municipal boundary says whose rules and whose officers apply. On this page the two are never treated as the same.
Administration is not authorization
A club’s staff, a stadium office and a league office can each describe a person’s schedule and still have no authority to accept service for that person. Access to a facility is not service, and a person’s employer is not automatically that person’s agent for receiving papers. The affidavit records who was served and in what capacity, because that is what the court reads.
Facility details verified against official sources in November 2026. No affiliation with MLB, the Cactus League, any club or any stadium management. Schedules, whereabouts and case information are never published.
